The History of New Creation Fellowship Church
This congregation was born in 1973 out of earnest desires for a daily walk with Jesus, an authentic worship of God and a genuine community of faith. New Creation joined the Western District (of the General Conference Mennonite Church) in 1973 and developed close connections to several church communities.* Worship space at first was in homes. In 1989, worship began in the beautiful Sister Frieda Chapel at 221 Muse.
Over the years, this earnestness has led to various forms of nurturing faith and community. Ongoing forms include participatory worship, small groups, mutual aid, congregational meetings, outreach/mission projects, appointed leadership, Sunday schools. Newer forms include a mentoring program, a young adult group, a men's group and adult study groups. Previous forms include extended family households, a construction crew and a common treasury.
We rejoice that the Spirit of God is still drawing us together and leading us in creating new history.
(*Notably Reba Place in Evanston, Illinois; Fellowship of Hope in Elkhart, Indiana, and Plow Creek in Tiskilwa, Illinois. Together we became known as the Shalom Communities.)
